Cool Video of Evan Giesleman from NSB, FL. surfing in Costa Rica….thought I’d share.
We use lots of different kinds of surfboards here at St. Augustine Surf School. We have foam boards for safety, epoxy boards for durability, and our favorite boards are the locally shaped surfboards from Kevin at Black Pearl Creations, for their high performance. Here is Kevin’s latest batch he shaped for us. Love to see our logo on some surfboards! Check him out at http://blackpearlcreations.com for some great deals on surfboards.
Had a great day teaching some free surf lessons at Gabe Kling’s 3rd annual Grom Comp today. It was a great day at the beach with our friends at Keepers of The Coast, with a beach clean up following the contest. It was especially exciting for me as it was the first ever contest our daughter Shaylee has surfed in! She surfed in the 6 and under division, and rocked 4th place in her first heat! I was one proud Papa to say the least! Here are some photos from the day.
We got off to a great start last week with surf camp. An awesome group of 6-8 year olds were tearing up the surf each day. We had a couple really fun games of soccer too! AJ took the honors as the best soccer player, scoring two goals in the last 2 minutes of the game! (5 min games) All the kids did great at surfing too. The standouts were definitely Tyler, Kenyon, and Shaylee coming on strong at the end of the week. Looking forward to this weeks camp, as we have a few older kids. We’ll see if they can keep up with the little ones!
We have lots of exciting stuff going on right now at St. Augustine Surf School. We are getting everything geared up for summer surf camp, which is rapidly approaching! We have been signing up a lot of students…and even have a couple full weeks already! Still lots of room though so sign up soon and get the extended discounted price.
We did an advanced camp a couple weeks ago with some local groms and it was a huge success. We held a contest at the end of the day, and local heavy hitter Marley Peck took down the top honors with the biggest wave of the day, unloading on a couple turns on the outside then milking to the beach and getting a nice closeout floater. Look for many more mini Sunday advanced camps in the near future.
Also on June 25th we are really stoked to be offering free surf lessons for kids who normally wouldn’t be able to learn to surf, at World Championship Tour Surfer and all around good guy Gabe Kling’s Grom Fest! Come on down and support a great cause. Maybe we’ll be able to get Gabe to paddle out and show us what a championship surfer can do on our waves!
Eastern Surf Magazine ran a feature called Schools out for the summer….and our own Jennifer Lovelace has a great shot on page 19 of 30. She was the only female (surfer) featured on the article! That’s who I want teaching my daughters to surf!
We are very excited for this summer. Make sure you check us out for our weekly summer camps or a private surf lesson.
